The Department of Physics was established as a University department in April 2008 with the idea of integrating physics departments of all University faculties. It was based on former department of physics of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. As such, it continues a long tradition of educating physics teachers starting in 1964. A study programme of research physics was established in 2010. Research is organized in two institutes: Institute of experimental and applied physics, and Institute of theoretical physics and astrophysics. Our research covers elementary particles, nuclear and molecular physics, condensed matter, environmental science, astrophysics and educational physics. Researchers are also university physics tutors.
